1st Friday with Mother Judge & Friends -2/6

Americana alt-folk diva Caroline MotherJudge and friends are coming back to the U. Club! Here's what Mother Judge had to say about a previous appearance ...

"Join us in one of our favorite rooms for 'Songs to Make you Want to Sing & Dance.' Great food & fellowship at the historic University Club, the jewel in the midtown Albany crown. Support First Friday! Get out, get some culture, see old friends and enjoy the season with something a bit more relaxing. See you there!"

On the first Friday of each month, the University Club celebrates the arts and culture in Albany by serving as a 1st Friday venue, with free live music from 8 - 10 p.m. One need not be a member to enjoy music, dinner and dancing in the Grille Room, dress is casual, and cash and major credit cards are accepted. Call 518-463-1151 to reserve a table for dinner, served until 9 p.m.

Mardi Gras with The Dylan Perrillo Orchestra! 2/13

In 1996, the Krewe of Beverwyck hosted its inaugural Mardi Gras Party in Albany.

Now, two decades later, the Krewe is moving their celebration to the University Club of Albany. On Friday, February 13, the Krewe of Beverwyck will present A Mardi Gras Celebration to Raise the Roof at the National Register-listed University Club of Albany, 141 Washington Avenue at Dove Street.

The Mardi Gras Celebration to Raise the Roof will feature a cocktail reception from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. with traditional New Orleans party food – red beans and rice, shrimp remoulade, muffalettas – and cash bar. Drink specials, music and decorations will transport guests to the French Quarter, and costumes and masks are strongly encouraged.

At 7:00 p.m., guests will be invited to the dining room for a special concert by the Dylan Perillo Orchestra, a colorful ensemble celebrating the beginnings of jazz with arrangements from the early 20th century. An eight piece band with lots of horns, woodwinds, bass, guitar and drums, their influences include everything from Billie Holiday to Louis Armstrong, Al Bowlly to Annette Hanshaw, Coleman Hawkins to Lester Young, and the contemporary artists that continue this tradition.

During the concert, the King Cake will be served, and the Krewe of Beverwyck’s King and Queen for 2015 will be revealed!

Two levels of tickets are available for the Mardi Gras Celebration to Raise the Roof: $25 per person for General Admission or $40 per person for preferred Cabaret Seating with table service during the concert. Reservations are required and may be made by calling the University Club at 518-463-1151 or tickets may be purchased online.

Proceeds from the event benefit the University Club of Albany Foundation, Inc., a 501c3 corporation, and one need not be a member of the University Club to attend. The Foundation is in the final push of their Raise the Roof campaign to raise money to make critically-needed repairs to the historic University Club building so it may continue to serve as a venue for the arts in the community. The Foundation has more than $90,000 in its lock box to begin repairs in the spring, some 88% of its goal.

The Foundation was formed to recognize and maintain the unique historic and architectural significance of the National Register-listed University Club building, its historic neighborhood and the city of Albany, where it has been located since its inception in 1901. Contributions to the Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
